Ayutthaya fue la capital del Reino de Siam (o Reino de Ayutthaya) desde 1350 a 1767. Los restos de esa capital (mayoritariamente templos y stupas medio en ruinas) ocupan una área de 15 km2 y son uno de los lugares históricos más importantes de Tailandia. Fueron declarados Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en el año 1991. Estuvimos, al igual que en Sukhothai, dos noches.
Ayutthaya was the capital of the Siam kingdom (or Ayutthaya kingdom) between 1350 and 1767. Ruins (mainly temples and stuppes) occupy an area of about 15 km2, and are one of the main historical sites in Thailand. The old city was declared as a World Heritage site in 1991. We spent two nights in Ayutthaya.
Múltiples son los templos, antiguos palacios o stupas que forman las ruinas. Sin embargo, antes de empezar la visita turística, por la mañana temprano, fui a visitar el Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park, que quedaba justo enfrente del hotel. Este parque, con algunas ruinas, jardines, y canales deparó un buen número de observaciones, con hasta 38 especies de aves.
A multitude of temples, palaces and stuppes form the ruins. However, before the turistic visit, early in the morning, I moved to do some birding at the Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park, just in front of my hotel. This park, that has some ruins, gardens and channels gave me the opportunity to see 38 different bird species.
Tras recoger a la familia, recorrimos varios de los templos más importantes. El que más me gustó, sin duda, fue el Wat Chaiwattanaram, localizado al otro lado del río. También es posible visitar un mercado flotante, cerca de la ciudad moderna. Para moverse entre los templos, lo mejor es disponer de un vehículo, ya que las distancias son relativamente grandes (o en su defecto una bicicleta, que se alquilan en varios sitios).
Thereafter, I picked up my family, and all together we visited several of the most important building remains. The most interesing for me was, with no doubt, the Wat Chaiwattanaram, located outside the old city. It is also possible to visit a floating market, near the new city. To move between temples, the best option is to use a car, as distances are big (if not, you will need a bicycle, rented in some places).
Y finalmente, por la tarde volví a recorrer el Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park, para completar la lista de especies. Entre las ruinas que estaban dentro del parque se dejó ver un mochuelo brahmán.
And finally, that afternoon I moved again to the Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park, to fill my list of observations. An spotted owlet was present in one of the ruins inside the park.
