Desde Bangkok volamos a Chiang Mai para visitar, durante 4 ó 5 días la zona norte. La verdad es que el tiempo no fue muy bueno, aunque ibamos avisados, ya que agosto es la temporada de lluvias. De todas formas, estas no impidieron nuestros planes, aunque sí los dificultaron bastante.
From Bangkok we flew to Chiang Mai, to visit the north of the country during 4-5 days. Weather in the north was bad, as the raining season is in its peak in August. Anyway, we managed to fulfill our plans.
1. Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai es una ciudad llena de templos, que sin duda merecen una visita. Quizás el más importante sea el Wat Phra Singh, que estaba relativamente cerca de donde nos alojábamos. A mi, personalmente, me gustó bastante el Wat Umong, fuera del centro amurallado.
Chiang Mai is a city full of temples that are interesting to visit. The most important is, probably, the Wat Phra Singh, that was relatively near to our hotel. The Wat Umong, outside the city walls, was also very nice.
Entre los templos y sus jardines ya es posible ver algunas especies, como el bulbul ventridorado que os muestro más abajo.
In the gardens around temples it is possible to see some species, as the sooty-headed bulbul shown below.
Pero para pajarear, lo más interesante es meterse en algún jardín. En este caso tenía relativamente cerca el Nong Buak Hard Public Park, dentro de la zona amurallada, y que deparó bastantes especies interesantes.
But to do some birding, what is interesting is to visit any garden, as the Nong Buak Hard Public Park. This park is inside the city wall, and gave me the opportunity to see several interesting species.

2. Baan Chang Elephant Park.
Uno de los días lo dedicamos a visitar un centro en el que supuestamente recuperan elefantes heridos o que han estado en cautividad. La verdad es que me decepcionó bastante, y no deja de ser una visita dirigida al público general. La zona, de todas formas, no está mal y nos permitió ver alguna especie interesante, como los abejarucos cabecirrufos.
One of our days in the north we visited a center supposedly dedicated to recover injured elephants or those that previously were in captivity. The park was a little bit disappointing, as it was a turistic attraction for general public. Anyway, the area around the park was nice, and it allowed us to see some beautiful species, as chesnut-headed bee-eaters.

3. Doi Inthanon National Park.
La visita al parque nacional Doi Inthanon era mi principal objetivo en el norte. Sin embargo, el tiempo no nos acompañó, y el día que fuimos se pasó toda la mañana lloviendo. Esto dificultó mucho la observación de fauna. Donde vimos más especies fue en el Royal Project, una zona donde cultivan especies vegetales, y que tiene restaurante y alojamientos. Una de las principales características de este parque son sus abundantes cascadas, así como la cima, que es el pico más alto de Tailandia.
The visit to the Doi Inthanon National Park was, initially, my main objective in the north. However, the day of our visit, the weather was horrible. Rain lasted all the morning, which made fauna observation very difficult. The area were we saw more species was in the Royal Project, where several plants are grown. This area has restaurant and accomodation. Waterfalls are a characteristic feature of the park, together with the summit, which is the highest peak in Thailand.
