11-ABRIL-2015: Parc Natural Delta de l'Ebre (Tarragona, Spain) - Correlimos oscuro, alcaudón pardo y más

Esta vez mi primer objetivo eran algunas de las rarezas que se estaban viendo en el Delta del Ebro. La más importante para mi era el alcaudón pardo, pero también el correlimos oscuro, que no había visto nunca, y es raro en Cataluña. Ambas se encontraban en el hemidelta norte, en Deltebre y L'Ampolla, respectivamente (para más detalles sobre la localización exacta, visitar la web Ornithocat). El más difícil de ver fue el alcaudón pardo, que requirió dos intentos.

This time my aim was to see some of the rarities that were in the Ebro Delta. The most important was the brown shrike, but also the purple sandpiper, a rarety for Catalonia. Botw were in the north part of the Ebro Delta, in Deltebre and L'Ampolla, respectively (if you need more details on the exact location, you can visit the web Ornithocat). The most difficult was to see the brown shrike, with two attempts.

Una vez conseguido, pasé a realizar mi ruta habitual en el hemidelta sur. Allí pude ver un buen montón de limícolas, incluyendo vuelvepiedras, chorlitos grises, correlimos comunes y menudos, chorlitejos grandes y patinegros, etc. Dejo algunas fotos testimoniales de las observaciones.

Then I move to the south part of the Ebro Delta, where I did my usual route. There I managed to see a good number of ruddy turnstones, sandpipers, plovers, little stints, dunlins, and other species. Here you have some pictures.

04-ABRIL-2015: Lagunas de El Raso (La Pedraja de Portillo, Valladolid, Spain)

La zona de las lagunas de El Raso de Portillo fue, hasta el siglo XIX, un humedal que llegó a contar con alrededor de 1900 hectáreas. Sin embargo, fue desecado para favorecer la expansión de los campos de cultivo y prevenir la malaria. Actualmente, las lagunas del Raso de Portillo son un pequeño humedal formado por 3 pequeñas lagunas de 8 , 2'8 y 0'7 hectáreas, situadas a ambos lados del arroyo del Molino, afluente del río Cega, y se encuentran rodeadas por cultivos de secano. Se encuentran entre los términos municipales de La Pedraja de Portillo y Aldeamayor (Valladolid). Fueron construidas en 2012 gracias a la colaboración de la Confederación Hidrográfica del Duero, y ya ya han adquirido gran importancia para las aves que habitan en entornos húmedos.

The area of the lagoons of El Raso de Portillo was, until the nineteenth century, a wetland that once extended for around 1900 hectares. However, it was dried to promote the expansion of farmland and prevent malaria. Currently, lagoonss in the Raso de Portillo are a small wetland consisting of 3 small ponds of 8, 2.8 and 0.7 hectares on both sides of Arroyo del Molino, a tributary of the river Cega, and are surrounded by cereal fields. They are among the municipalities of La Pedraja de Portillo and Aldeamayor (Valladolid). They were built in 2012 thanks to the collaboration of the Confederación Hidrográfica del Duero, and have already acquired great importance for the birds that live in moist environments.

Mi primer objetivo era observar las avutardas que se mueven por los campos cercanos. Finalmente se dejaron ver 2 grupitos, uno de 6 ejemplares y otro con 11 individuos. Gracias Freddy, un compañero del foro Naturolid, por mostrarme por donde andaban.

My main aim was to see the small resident population of great bustard, living in the cereal fields. I saw two groups, one with 6 individuals, and another with 11 birds. Thanks Freddy, from Naturolid, as you saw me where they were moving.

29 AL 31 DE MARZO DE 2015: Parque Natural Posets-Maladeta (Benasque y Cerler, Huesca, Spain)

Casi tres cuartas partes de la superficie del parque natural Posets-Maladeta queda por encima de los 1.800 metros, oscilando entre los 1.500 metros de los fondos de los valles y los 3.404 metros del Aneto. Los glaciares esculpieron un paisaje espectacular, con largos valles en forma de U, colosales circos y profundas cubetas, ocupadas actualmente por centenares de ibones (lagos de montaña de origen glaciar). La vida se escalona según la altura y las condiciones ambientales. A menor altitud nos encontramos serbales, avellanos y abedules, en las laderas más húmedas aparecen hayas, pinos y abetos, y en las cotas más altas el pino silvestre da paso al pino negro. Todo ello comporta una fauna diversa y diferente determinada en gran medida por la altitud.

Almost three-quarters of the surface of the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park is above 1,800 meters, ranging from 1,500 meters of valleys to the 3404 meters of the Aneto peak. Glaciers carved spectacular sceneries, with long U-shaped valleys, colossal cirques and deep bowls, currently occupied by hundreds of small mountain lakes of glacial origin (called ibones). Life is staggered according to the height and environmental conditions. At lower altitude we find rowan, hazel and birch trees, whereas in the wetter slopes appear beech, pine and fir, and at the highest levels black pines are predominant. This entails a particular and diverse wildlife largely determined by altitude.

1. Alrededores de Cerler.

Mi primera visita se centró alrededor del pueblo y la pista de esquí de Cerler, donde estábamos alojados. Mientras mi familia se dedicaba al esquí, yo aproveché para recorrer los prados cercanos al pueblo, donde pude observar a placer varios escribanos cerillos, especie a la que no estoy muy habituado.

My first visit was centered around the town and the skiing facilities of Cerler, where we had rented an apartment. While my family was skiing, I enjoyed visiting the fields around the town, where I managed to see several yellowhammers, an species that I'm not used to see.

2. Ruta entre el Hospital de Benasque y La Besurta.

El segundo día decidí hacer la ruta entre el Hospital de Benasque y La Besurta. Es una excursión sencilla, aunque la ruta estaba completamente cubierta por la nieve, y para poderme mover necesité alquilar unas raquetas de nieve. A pesar de ello, y de que estuvo lloviznando más o menos constantemente, la excursión resultó agradable, aunque no muy rica en especies (supongo que iba más centrado en las raquetas y en la lluvia). Eso sí, había un fuerte paso de milanos, tanto negro como real, y bastantes golondrinas.

During the second day, I decided to make the route between the Hospital de Benasque and La Besurta. It's an easy hike, but it was completely snowed, and therefore I needed snowshoes for being able to move. Despite this, and the fact that it was drizzling rather constantly, the hike was nice, although not very rich in species (I guess I was more focused on moving with the snowshoes and on protecting the equipment against the rain). Anyway, there was a strong passage of black and red kites and common swallows.

3. Ruta entre el Balneario de Benasque y el Valle de Vallibierna.

Finalmente, visité la zona del río Esera, cerca del Balneario de Benasque, y me adentré ligeramente en el valle de Vallibierna, que me pareció interesante y dejaré para una visita posterior. Aquí pude disfrutar de un quebrantahuesos, varios escribanos montesinos, y multitud de reyezuelos, tanto listado como sencillo. El paisaje era el típico de fondo de valle, con bastante menos nieve que el día anterior, y al inicio del valle de Vallibierna cambia a un bosque maduro de pino negro.

Finally, I visited the area of Esera River, near the Balneario de Benasque, and I entered slightly into the valley of Vallibierna, that I found very interesting (I will try to visit again in the future). Here I could enjoy with a bearded vulture, several rock buntings, and many common firecrests and goldcrests. The landscape was the typical of a valley bottom, with considerably less snow than the day before, and at the beginning of the Vallibierna valley it changes to a mature forest of black pine.
